Fayetteville Fire Antz players Bobby Reed, Brett McConnachie and Jesse Biduke make an intersting juxtaposition behind a painting of ballerinas on the team bench while playing the Mississippi Surge.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S COMMENTS -- So many times what we photograph during the year is serious. When I can, I try to find something light hearted to put a smile on viewer's face. This happened recently when the Fayetteville Fire Antz players were perfectly lined up behind a painting of ballet tutus. I had seen the painting at an earlier game but the players were not lined up behind the legs. I decided to keep looking each time I shot a game. My patience was rewarded with a funny picture.

The conditions at the Oakwood Villa apartments are hard to take for young and old. Most of the residents had to flee to the second floor of the apartments to escape Katrina's storm surge. Now, their homes are a muddy mess with all belongings lining the drive. The apartments are near a water treatment plant and many residents fear that sewage entered their home as well as Katrina's wave. (Tim Isbell/The Sun Herald)

Southern Miss defensive back Kalan Reed signals incomplete after breaking up a pass.

Photographer's Comment -- Even if you get the action, stay on your subject for the reaction too. Reed is always good about showing some emotion after a good play. Knowing your team and its players can help get a good picture.

Lynell Jackson takes a nap while the rest of the congregation of Little Rock Baptist Church in Gulfport celebrates the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

PHOTOGRAPHER'S COMMENTS -- Whenever on assignment, I try to find a photo that isn't the obvious photo. Many times these are the more memorable photos instead of a speaker behind the podium. I thought this was a classic little kid snoozing in church photo. I brought back memories when I was little and would take naps during the sermon.

Bronwynne was telling the President that she didn't have anything other than the clothes on her back. It was Bush's first visit to the Mississippi Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina hit. Fishermen get an early start to the day as the sun rises over the horizon in BIloxi.

Photographer's Comment -- I get up most mornings before starting my work day and shoot sunrises. It is something I've done since Hurricane Katrina. Call it my way of showing the beautiful Coast instead of the scarred landscape. I shot this sunrise of the lone fisherman while on the way to another early assignment.
